I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. It’s my favorite time of the year as I get to go Crane Beach in Ipswich. If you’ve ever been there you understand why I love it so much.
I want to continue the theme of making more time for #1 – YOU again this month. If you missed my last newsletter, you’ll find it here.
It’s important to make time for #1 – YOU. Life can get very busy and time goes by very fast. Whatever you like to do, whether it’s the beach, walking, a bike ride, golfing, or reading a book you’ve been meaning to get to, be sure to enjoy those things before the summer is over.
Here are more ideas to help you make more time for #1 – YOU.
Schedule “YOU” Time in Your Calendar
You probably schedule things to do for everyone else, now schedule time in your calendar for YOU. Don’t wait until you have a free moment (you might not get one!). Block out an afternoon, or even better, an entire day if you can! Schedule some “ME” time!
Share the Load
Everyone in a household should have individual responsibilities and chores. It can be stressful and overwhelming when one person does everything. I often see this when I work with homeowners. You can’t do it all. The solution is to delegate. Even a two year old can learn how to put away their toys! To make more time for #1 – YOU, you’ll have to delegate. Start with one or two things. Before you know it, you’ll find yourself with time to do something YOU want to do!
It’s OK to Say “No”
A lot of people I work with take on too much. They are doing this, that, and then pile on even more. It’s OK to say “No” when asked to join the parent’s committee at school, neighborhood group, or high school reunion committee.
Use Your Vacation Time
I recently read an article about how much time people fail to take off at work. 54 percent of Americans don’t use all of their earned vacation time. That’s right, they’ve earned it, but don’t use it. Do you have vacation time that you haven’t planned on using?
Plan Ahead for Back-to-School
It’s only 4 weeks away for many kids and then it’s back to school. Waiting until the last minute to do back-to-school shopping can be stressful. Do a little at a time over the next few weeks. Make a list of the things you need to do and do them one at a time! Don’t forget to take care of yourself while you’re taking care of all the kids!
